據報道，鴻海精密工業有限公司將與大同集團合作，進入薄膜太陽能電池工業領域。Taiwanese solar-cell insiders pointed out that Hon Hai, currently Taiwans biggest manufacturing conglomerate by market capitalization, is fascinated to enter the rising turf. But, the company is not good at silicon-based products, likely prompting it to enter into alliance with Tatung. Tatung has diversified into solar-energy sector and is running solar-cell venture Green Energy Technology Inc. The solar-cell venture is planning to use resources of flat-panel display affiliate Chunghwa Picture Tubes Ltd. to develop thin-film solar cells. Chunghwa Picture has set up close business tie with Innolux Display Corp., Hon Hais thin-film transistor liquid-crystal display (TFT-LCD) affiliate.Industry watchers on the island expect Hon Hai to partner with Tatung on solar-energy business through Green Energy and Innolux.Innoluxs executives pointed out that their company had been collecting information on solar energy and would very likely become a player in the sector with Hon Hais rich resources. Green Energys executives confirmed reports that the company was planning to develop thin-film solar cells with Chunghwa as a result of supply shortage of polysilicon, the major material for making traditional solar cells. Thin-film cell is built on amorphous silicon material and glass substrate, which is also material for making LCDs. Green Energys executives pointed out that thin-film solar cells use glass substrate in size of 1.1 meters by 1.4 meters, similar to the size of the substrate for making 4.5-generation LCD displays.Green Energy is currently Taiwans No.1 supplier of solar-cell silicon wafers, with output capacity projected to expand to 200megawatts by the end of this year. The companys executives pointed out that the company would procure its first thin-film solar cell production line recently and begin volume production next year.
